New Agent Questions

How Long does it take to become an agent?
Typically, it takes anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months. We recommend planning on a 3-month timetable to give yourself plenty of time to pass your state license and Symmetry tests.

How much does it cost to become an agent?
Not very much at all. We'll itemize some upfront costs soon.

What's the relationship between The Walls Agency and Symmetry?
Symmetry is the financial agency to which all agents belong. This is where each agent purchases policies for their customers. The Walls Agency is an agency under the Symmetry Financial Group. You, as an individual agent will also be under the Symmetry Financial Group and under The Walls Agency.

Am I an employee of the Agency or Symmetry?
No, you will act as an independent contractor and be paid directly by all insurance carriers. At the end of the fiscal year, you will receive a 1099 showing all your earnings from all carriers.
This way, you can operate on your own schedule and not be held to anyone for office hours, vacation hours or sick leave. You are in complete control!

If I Bring On A New Agent Myself, Do I Need To Train Them?
Only if you want to; otherwise, we will handle the training and support for you. It's our goal to support you in achieving your goals. So if you decide to become an Agency Owner, we can help all your new hires with the training and support they need to get started.

How Much Money Can I Make?
As you probably already know, that depends on you and how much effort and commitment you are willing to make.
We have seen part-time people working 15-20 hrs a week making around 60K-70K.
Full-time people working 35-40 hrs per week making 150K-200K.
Now, keep in mind that these are averages, and starting out, you may not hit these targets, but you most certainly can!
Managing your expectations will likely be the hardest part of hitting financial targets.

How Do I Get Paid?
Once you are registered with the insurance carriers, you will be asked to link your bank account to them. Within a few days of selling a policy, you will be paid directly from the insurance carrier into your bank account.

Do I Build A Book Of Business?
No, it's not like State Farm or Farmers Insurance, where you have clients on your books.
You sell individual policies to people who have asked for information on them. You can sell different insurance options to them based on their specific needs, but typically, it will be a one or two-time sale.

How Long Does It Take to go through the training to pass the state certification test?
That will depend on how much time you devote to the training itself and your own study habits. We have seen people get through the training in one week and pass the state exam on their first try. Others have taken around 30 days to complete the training to make sure they pass on the first try.
You'll know yourself better than anyone else, so plan on blocking out time to do the necessary work you feel you'll need to pass the state exam.

Is the Training online or in person?
The pre-state licensing training is online. You'll receive a link to the training, with a discounted price, once you decide to move forward.
The state license tests can be done online or at an in-person training center. The state licensing board in your state will have a list of those in-person facilities.

How Much training is there?
In a word, TONS. Not only do you have online training from Symmetry, but you have access to weekly meetings with people just like you and people who have been in the business for years. This is a great opportunity to listen in or ask questions from experienced people who have been in your shoes and know what to do if you feel stuck or have specific questions.
You also have access to your upline people, the folks who brought you on, to ask questions and provide you with support.

Do I have to sell Insurance to My family & Relatives?
Absolutely NOT. Having said that, if they want specific products from you, then of course give them good options to meet their needs.
This is why we have a lead-generation machine in place so new agents, and even veteran agents, do not need to turn to family members to make sales. You only offer solutions to people who have asked for them via online submissions.
